The voices of freedom echoed through the Cuban streets on July 11, 2021, hundreds of people came out to demand a Cuba that guaranteed rights, the songs of Homeland and Life resurfaced after years of overwhelming silence due to systematic repression carried out by the State on those who dissented from the establishment. The chains of fear had been broken on the morning of June 11, because after 63 years of revolution and the emblematic Maleconazo of 1994, it was the first time that the people directly faced the repression of the Cuban State, a new cry for freedom it resonated collectively and visibly extended beyond the island's barriers. Understanding 11J as the day that the chains of silence were broken, we commemorate the arrival of a collective resistance and remember the emergence of the cry for freedom.
